To Our Valued Customer,
We often hear the question from potential new clients when they come into the store or by phone when they call asking “what is the price of your Open Water Scuba Lessons(click here for price)”? We understand that price is an important consideration and it represents one of the pieces of the puzzle from which an overall decision will ultimately be made on where to take your scuba lessons but we also feel there are additional criteria that should be evaluated as well. The additional items we feel are equally as important include:
- well maintained rental gear - friendly and knowledgeable staff
- reputable gear manufactures - well stock inventory for gear selection
- reputable training organizations - organized travel for guided trips
- high quality breathing gases
It’s not our intent to discuss those items here since we are only dealing with the issue of cost within this article. For a more detailed explanation of these items please refer to the “Equipment => Rental” section of our website at www.aquaimmersion.com or ask one of our staff members for more information.
To answer the question “how much are your Open Water Scuba Lessons” it can become very confusing if a dive shop just throws a figure out at you without any further explanation. However, this is usually the result when either you don’t know the proper questions to ask in order to get all the information you need due to no fault of your own since you are new to the sport, you reach a shop that doesn’t want to take the time on the phone to answer your questions, or they are intentionally using the tactic of “hidden cost” that you don’t find out about until sometime later when its to late.
To obtain your Open Water Diver certification there are three major phases to the typical scuba program: 1) academics 2) pool work, and finally 3) open water dives. Until you complete your four open water dives you have not achieved the Open Water Diver Certification however this is often one of those areas where a shop will quote you a price for “scuba lessons” without including the “hidden cost” of those four open water dives. In an effort to help guide you through the various aspects of achieving your Open Water Certification and the cost associated with obtaining that certification we have created a matrix attached to show the cost of obtaining your certification from Aqua Immersion compared to other Central Ohio dive shops in an “Apples-to-Apples” comparison format.
When you look at the overall cost, the “Grand Total” line highlighted in yellow on the attached matrix we think you will find Aqua Immersion to be very competitively priced compared to our competitors. In fact at the time this information was compiled Aqua Immersion offered the following advantages:
- six month complimentary subscription to “Dive Training Magazine” a publication written especially for new divers
- membership in the Aquanauts Dive club for the remaining current membership cycle
- dive related insurance coverage during your Open Water certification training
- FREE 35mm camera to use on your final Open Water training dive to record your experience
- no “make-up” fees for missed sessions
- with our in-house pool we are able to provide very flexible scheduling to meet your schedule
The information contained in the matrix may change periodically over time but we will make every effort to keep it updated. Although the information may change occasionally you can still use it as a guide to ask your own questions and update it with the latest information as you like.
Although Aqua Immersion may be the most competitively priced program on the attached matrix we hope that you won’t make your decision based on cost alone. We would encourage you to investigate the other areas mentioned in this article and on our website and we think you will find that we represent an overall resource that you can use for all of your Scuba related needs. We want to become your total source for everything Scuba and will strive to obtain that goal.
Regards,
Aqua Immersion Staff
